Only 2 long-distance running events in the world require a qualifying runs to participate.. (1) the Olympic Games, and (2) the Boston Marathon. BQ'ing has been a goal, and dream, for Jenny for awhile now. After working so hard, and coming pretty close on several marathons, Jenny's determination and diligent training finally paid off.. BIG!
The news this past year was the Boston Marathon filling up so quickly and closing registration within the first 8 hours on day #1. New Boston Qualifying times were announced, that would go into effect for the 2013 Boston Marathon. But, the rolling advanced registration starts this next registration period in September 2011 (for the 2012 Boston Marathon). Until now, she needed a 3:45:59 to officially qualify; however, starting this year, if you go even faster, BQ -5min, you can register anywhere from 1-3 days earlier!
We went to Portland, Oregon for the July 4 weekend, and for Jenny to do the Sauvie Island Foot Traffic Flat Marathon. Weather was great, sunny but not too warm. Beautiful small country marathon, with the homemade strawberry shortcake at the finish line!
So proud of Jenny... CONGRATS MOMMY!!!
So, not only did she hit this year's BQ, but she actually beat the new BQ time by a few seconds. So, this year, since she is 5min faster than the BQ, she will be able to register 1 day early.. which may be huge!
We're going to Boston!! (hopefully)
Congrats on BQ, and Good Luck!
